Going Green

RiverEast Center is saving the earth one design element at a time:

  • The innovative public plaza is the first shared “green street” in Portland to treat stormwater from both public and private runoff sources.
  • The southern "solar wall", with double glass panels and light shelves, heats the building in the winter and reduces heat gain in the summer.
  • Energy-saving reflective white roof.
  • Solar heating.
  • 100% green power.
  • Passive cooling in public lobby.
  • Over 95% of the construction waste was recycled and concrete removed during the construction process was reused as plaza sculptures.
